Hobby: Buying Discounts and "You mean like a BB?"

I noticed an interesting trend...buying discounts.  There are plenty of online stores that offer great deals but many of them charge shipping or require you to wait to get it.  They also take from the places that actually give you table space.

Beginning of the month Beltway Gamers announced a partnership with our home store Dream Wizards.  For $10, you get a card that gives you 10% off of GW/PP merchandise.  Last week, Chuck's Comics (my second home) offered $20 for 20%.  Both good for a year.  Since I try to buy some stuff from each when I have a big project, I picked up one of each.

With the number of people that complain about stores not giving discounts (but you still play in), I think this is a welcome sight.  Better than charging for tables.  Makes those impulse purchases less painful.

Lastly, a friend asked about a comment I made on my blog post about Minitaire paints.  He asked about putting a BB in the paint to aid in the mixing of it.  I wanted to show some pics of the paint pre-shaken.  While the BB may not be necessary, it saves a lot of effort.

The "gold" is stuck at the bottom.  Took awhile to mix it even with the BB.

Ditto on the Gun Alloy

I should have some pics of the models in another post.  Been relying heavily on the airbrush to get most of the cultists done.  Been happy with how they have been coming along.  I can't wait to show them off.

Blog Exchange!

It's simple and fun.  You have a blog and I have a blog.  Let's exchange links.  Just post your link in the comments and I will add you.

Release the hounds!

I wanted some spawn models for a new CSM build I want to run. Ended up buying fleshhounds cause they look like lizards and suit the hydra theme of Alpha Legion.

I also picked a Khrone Lord on a Juggernaut and a Thunderfire Cannon.

Not sure what paint scheme for the Lord. I will probably keep the Alpha Legion theme with some Khorne accents.

Review: Badger Renegade Krome and Minitaire

Well I finally got my Minitaire paints and decided to bust out the new Badger Renegade Krome.  I purchased the Krome to perform the fine detail work that my Paasche Talon couldn't really do.  I did a nice unboxing video and for some reason the entire video is a blur.  So no unboxing or anything like that.

I tried the Renegade Krome out with both Model Air and Com-Art paints initially.  It worked as expected.  Fine lines and detailed work on my Oblitz.  Then I decided to work on my Alpha Legion cultists.   I picked out a few paints.  Primary for the color scheme is blue and green.

The Renegade Krome has been working like a dream.  I have been able to get paint in the smallest spaces without worry of over spraying.  The addition of the plastic support actually makes it rest comfortably in your hand.

For the green, I used envy green for the base and gremlin green for the highlight.
Since the blue was going to be a primary color in my Alpha Legion army, I went with lagoon blue for the base, spellslinger blue for the highlight, and royal blood for the shadows.

I used blue first.  I was impressed with how it flowed.  I only have one issue and it was only visible when I looked at one of the photos.  I plan on using the GW glaze to bring the colors together (or maybe the blue ghost tint).  I still need to fix some errors I made but I really like the colors and how they go together.

Next I used green.  I was having major issues with dry tip with the envy green.  I think it wasn't mixed well enough.  That could be because they didn't include a BB to mix the paint.  It wasn't a big issue.  I have ordered a bag o' BBs from Amazon to remedy this.  Just a minor nuisance.

I have to say the coverage of the paint is great even on black.  The only negative is the lack of an agitator to mix the pigment.  Not a huge problem but something to think about.  I will (and have) be recommending these paints and airbrush to anyone that will listen.  I think I need to get a new compressor and a lot more lighting but at least I have a winner when it comes to paints and the new airbrush.

Beltway Gamers FIRST BLOOD 2013

UPDATE: I was reminded that this is the FIRST BLOOD and not the Final fight.
BWG had their first tournament of 2013. It was a blast.  Well run as always and people were pretty calm and level headed.  Once again it was a packed house and a lot of great players were present.

Besides the standard 1st and 2nd places, they had best painted.  Even better than that, they had the much coveted, Cyboskull.

This was the prize for being the worst of the worst.  It was my goal for this event.  Since my previous BWG tournaments were 1-1-1 and 0-3, I thought I had a good chance.

I went with this list.  I received much heat by playing double Heldrakes but I suck and need the extra help.  The scenarios weren't the normal BWG scenarios.  They were play testing the Colonial GT. More after the break.

WIP: Huron Blackheart Alpha Legion Edition.

"The Imperium is a weak old man, ready and waiting to be broken apart by his vengeful sons." - Huron Blackheart

Been working on my new list for BWG Final Fight Tournament.  Doing straight CSM.  After my mixed CSM/IG list was successful but wasn't as fun as I first thought.  The one thing I liked was the Master of Deception warlord trait I rolled.  Running up with two squads of CSM and having the Heldrakes wreck shop got me thinking.  I like Master of Deception.  My two choices were Ahriman and Huron.  Huron was much cheaper even with a comparable sorcerer.

Hobby: New Arrivals and Getting Tournament Ready

Haven't gotten much in the way of gaming the past two weeks but that looks to change very soon. Next week is a kill team event and Beltway Gamers Final Fight event.  Plus I got a new airbrush and some of the new Minitair paints.  More news after the break...
