Warmachine: Protectorate of Menoth Vessel of Judgment

This has to be the coolest conversion I have seen.  The Cygnar was cool but this just looks killer.

Games Workshop: Necrons Return - The Dilemma

GW has finally confirmed what we all have known for a while now: The Necrons are the next codex.  A few weeks ago I was set to sell my remaining Necrons and buy something else.  Either finish my GK army or replace some pieces on my DE army.

Then I realize a have a mess of Necrons.  Not a huge amount.  Totaled I have 32 warriors, 3 Destroyers, a heavy Destroyer, Destroyer Lord and a Nightbringer.  Then I see the possibility.  "I should go ahead and finish the army."

My ADHD doesn't help.  The new shiny has arrived to take my attention away from my current project (putting together my 35+ point Khador army).  The desire to have the new shiny begins to creep in.  Part of this is to actually make an army from start to finish that is WYSIWYG and tournament ready.

This is where the dilemma begins as well.  I want to start doing competitive play.  Do I want to build several WarmaHorde armies to compete in those events or do I want to have a competitive army for 40k?

I can finish my Khador army and be comfortable with the fact I have one 35pt Khador army that just needs paint.  My DE army needs about a $100 or so worth of parts (using Miniature Market prices) but I think this is more of a beer and pretzel army right now.  I like it but not enough to run a tournament.  My GK lists have been fun and competitive BUT to make a tournament army I need to spend a lot to get the pieces and have them kitted right.  I can finish my Necron army for about the same or less.

First world problems...

Dragon Forge Trench Works Bases

I got a bunch of the "Trench Works" bases for my Khador army.  Started painting them.  Here are two of them.  They still need work and I just added a wash prior to taking the pictures:

Shadowrun MMO

Nice interview with a member of the Shadowrun MMO team.  Can't wait for this one!

Blade Runner Hommage

This is the reason I really want to go to Japan.  This and video games.

Warmachine: Foodmachine 2011 @ Games and Stuff

Looks like it's that time of year again.  Games and Stuff is hosting a 35 point "Foodmachine" fundraiser. Admission is a small donation and then you can spend cans (or tickets if you just want to pay cash) to "cheat".

Here is the list of "cheats":

Bell of Lost Souls: Necron Release and New Finecast Releases

Bell of Lost Souls just posted the November releases.  Looks like Necrons (duh) and some older metal models dropping in finecast.  Still on the fence on whether I am going to actually pick up any minis or sell my current stock.  I didn't realize I have almost 1000 points of Necrons.

The new models do look pretty cool but I do have a lot of models that need painting.  Plus Warmachine is sooo much fun.  Decisions. Decisions.

Moving back from Tumblr

I like the control I have on Blogger vs. Tumblr.  Moving back this evening.

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Played my first official game of Warmachine last night.  Went like this:

  • Opponent moves guys forward and casts spells

  • I move guys forward and casts spells

  • He shoots and messes up a bunch of guys

  • I charge a guy and ding his armor

  • He charges and messes up some more guys

  • My caster charges his caster and unloads hell while my Warjack fires and kills him

  • FIN
Overly simplified and more fun then it sounded.  I think Todd was perplexed that it ended with a duel while my guys getting their arses handed to them. His Warcaster could take a friggin pounding.  When he pulled out Cygnar troops I was expecting all range.  Didn’t expect a Warcaster that can take hits like a Warjack.

My opponent (Nate) kicked ass though and explained a lot about troop placement (which differs greatly from 40k).

While I think 40k is still my favorite, the idea of being able to play multiple games in an evening rocks.  This is esspecially true since the 40k and Warmachine players from Beltway Gamers all play during the week.

WIP: Man-O-War Shocktrooper

Here is the latest WIP:

WIP: Khador Destroyer

Finished him a few nights ago.  Not completely happy with him but I can see where I am getting better and where I see mistakes.  I still need to add white to the scraps in the paint and then gloss finish him.

This was out of focus but I love how my crappy OSL effect looks when it’s out of focus.

Since I decided to start Warmachine/Hordes, I have been thoroughly impressed with the game.  I decided to go with the Two-player box set. It comes with two armies, Protectorate of Menoth (religious zealots) and the Khador (Russians with big Warmachines and lots of troops).  My original first choice for an army was the Cryx (undead type) but I decided I like the colors black and red.  Khador would be my choice.

WIP: Khador Destroyer

Started painting the red on the Destroyer.  I still have a lot of work to do.  I have to finish the red then go and clean up the places I was sloppy.  Then do the rivets, wash it, then highlights and battle damage (to hide the imperfections).

WIP: Khador Destroyer

Finished up the metals on the Destroyer.  I need to do a better job cleaning the model.  I found a mess of mold lines.

WIP: Khador Destroyer

I assembled my Khador battle box.  Here is the Destroyer with some of the metal work started.  He is a fun model.

New WIP: Grey Knight Draigo

I started some work on to have his power weapon done by yesterday’s game.  Here he is:

I have added a lot more gold to him but I like his look.
