Models and Stuff

Did some more work on the Razorwing the past few nights (I will post the pics soon).  Finished up the gems with the exception of the gloss varnish.  Gonna buy some this weekend.  They look good for a first attempt.  I have a few issues with the run off from the paint.  I’ll take care of that by making those areas where the chip details go.  To paraphrase the late great Bob Ross, “I only have happy little mistakes.”

I ordered the Warmachine box set.  I wasn’t too thrilled with the two armies included but after reading up on them I have been rather happy with their back stories and figures.  If they actually release the box set, I should have plenty to play with.  I will probably have the midgets start to learn this since they want to get involved in painting figures and the models are cheap enough I can pick one or two up for them to build and paint.

Round 3 - Space Wolves

In Victory Points, I crushed him. Round 6 I for get to deploy my Tact squad and lose by a point. It had to be the best painted army I have played.

Round 2 - Look another Dark Angels Deathwing Army

Round two against another Deathwing army. The guy I played won in the final round due to some failed saves. Once again Vulkan destroys most things but dies to being Zergged. I found out the guy from Round 1 is one of the better DA players. Glad I wasn’t tabled.

Round 1 at Blobs

Well, I lost. Took the guy to the final round but was beaten soundly. The opponent played Dark Angels and was cool. Luckily, I was able to drown my loss with good German beer and brats. The food rocks.

Twas the Night before the Battle of Blobs Park

I am ready to pack everything.  I have some pictures uploaded after the break.  I rushed to get these finished and while I am not exactly happy I can say that for my first painted army, it looks OK.  You will notice the Vindicators are missing their blades.  Well after I tried a final time to stripe them, one out of two turned out.  I sealed the paint and laid a coat of blue around the edges.  While removing the tape, I also removed some of the airbrush paint.  So my dozer blades are now Navy Blue.

Note: The kick ass Vulcan in Ultramarine armor was done by Todd.

More pics after the break…

Rush to the Battle of Blobs Park

Despite being sick yesterday, my airbrush and new paint brushes made quick work of the majority of my tasks this evening.  I now have to finish the chrome work on the vindicators, base the terminators, and finish some details on the last speeder.

I should finish that tomorrow.  That would give me Friday to finish the display board, add any additional detail, and then pack everything up for the tournament.

I will snap a picture of the army on the display board.

Battle of Blobs Park

Not sure how much progress was made on finishing my army by Saturday.  While I didn’t get what I wanted to get done on my units, I managed to airbrush my vehicles and do some of the detail work.  I did manage to prep my terminators to apply the final detail work.  That will leave my final assault squad, the detail work and weapons on my razorback, basing the terminators and a dread(easier then it sounds), finishing the dozer blades on the vindicators (not really wanting to field them but my predators won’t make it here and be painted by Saturday), and figuring what the hell am I going to do with the inside of the drop pods (I am leaning toward airbrushing the inside grey and inking it to be cheap).

I won’t be winning any prizes but at least I can learn some stuff and have fun.

Dark Eldar V. Chaos

Played Thom and his Chaos horde.  The DE did very well.  Round 1 Thom lost his Land Raider.  I had a nice run going.  He came back strong and basically kept me off my base with his defiler.  The unit of Wracks with Urien were ineffective and the Wytches were hung up for three turns with Thom’s Devastator squad.

I did learn some new tactics with the Reavers that could make them rather annoying to other units.  You fly over a unit on your turn and use bladevanes and caltrops.  Then you repeat it on the assault phase.

Chaos won this one 1-0.

I picked up two ruined buildings from games and stuff. They are the “Battlefield in a box” from Cloud 9. For $25 a pop, I was surprised at the quality. They came prepainted.

Dark Eldar Painting

I was continuing painting the Kabalite Warriors. I am starting to dig the colors. The two shades of purple. The one thing I am not digging the Reaper brush I am using. It doesn’t keep a point and have a habit of spreading. This has been causing splotches of paint on the armor. I have a Army Painter insane detail brush. I like their brushes because of the grips and they seem to hold paint better.

While I am not pleased with the paint job, these are just foot soilders that I need a million of and will forgive myself for the mistakes. If the rain would stop, I could prime my Wracks and start them.

First 40k Tournament in two weeks

So I decided to actually compete in my first 40k tournament.  Inner Circle Gaming Club is running the Battle of Blobs Park.  Blobs park is a real park in Jessup.  It is being held at a beer garden and they will be serving beer (and it is BYOB).  I can get my arse whipped and use I have been drinking as an excuse.  I cannot wait.

I airbrushed some bases for the Dark Eldar Wracks. Primer arrived today to prime my sh*t up.
