A few days ago I attempted to airbrush some ether sails for the Dark Eldar army I bought.  The indigo went on almost transparent over the black.  Today I decided to add 1:4 white to indigo.  The paint went on a lavender but was covering the black completely.  I went over it after it dried with straight indigo and went on perfectly.

I tried the same technique with the yellow I was doing for my vindicator dozer blades.  While it worked, I have some more work to do.  The first is masking tape tends to be a bit sloppy once wet. The yellow seems to go on watery as is and compounds this problem. I completed one blade but had much to touch up.  I am going to try again tomorrow.  I will post some pics of the dozer blades tomorrow as well.

Dark Eldar

I have been giving some TLC to the newly acquired DE army.  A good portion was painted.  I wasn’t too in love with the color scheme (Warlock and lich purples).  I was messing around with the sails on the Reavers and Raiders and I realized the airbrush paint wouldn’t go over the black.  I then turned it on the purple to see if I can hide the brush marks with it.  It darkened up nicely and gave it an eviler look.  Gonna use some other things I discovered as I was repairing the DE to use when assembling my next order.

Also…Space Marines beat the Eldar 1-0 in 5 rounds.

When Ultramarine Blue is really Space Wolves Blue

As I get my army together to move it upstairs to play Thom and his Eldar in the Hurricane battle of ‘11, I notice that my razorback sitting next to my drop pod are two different colors.  The drop pod is dark and looks like it’s ultramarine blue.  The razorback is the grayish blue that is associated with the Space Wolves.  I used the new Ultramarine Blue Army Painter primer and the color is not very Ultramarine.

For a few minutes I thought i would just eat the cost and then buy the Regal Blue primer.  Then it hit me.  All I have left is my razorbacks and tactical squads.  Paint them as is and then later decide if I want to build a Space Wolves army.  After I finish the other armies that are half done.

Irene Day 0

We are being mandatory evacuated. The combination of the earthquake, the hurricane and playing Dues Ex all night has me wondering what is really the reason they want us out of the area. Paranoia is setting in. Need to find a Limb clinic and get some augmentations.

PS: Deus Ex is worth the price.

Oh the humanity...

NPR released their “Top 100 Sci-fi and Fantasy” novels.  While I agree with a lot of them, there is one glaring omission.  No Harlan Ellison.  What the hell. I would say that it could be that he mainly is known for his short stories but since Sandman and Watchmen both made the list and are comics…Sorry graphic novels.  He deserves to be there.  Bastards.

Poor Ultramarines...

You have been good too me.  Showing me each mistake I make painting you.  Letting experiment with primers, styles and airbrush paints.  You have never complained because you know that the Emperor protects.  Alas, it looked like the forces of Chaos had a trick up their sleeve today.  Their tendrils reached in and made say that the humidity was only 75% when in fact it was 91%.  My trusty Army Painter primer left a thin layer of textured paint on a Razerback.

I will sand it down.  Like a good soldier they remained ever vigilant in the face of this evil.

Based on Todd’s recommendation, I bought a set of Com-Art paints.  I have to say that it worked rather well. No mixing anything.  Just drop and paint.  I need to mask up the dozer-blades on the vindicator to get it ready for the hazard striping.

Gonna work on finishing the painting of my Ultramarines this week.  Try to prime most of the remaining models tonight.  I won’t finish this week but I will at least make some progress.  I will try to at least finish up the tact squads.

I tried messing with some Creatix Airbrush paint.  Why make a paint that you need to thin for it to work in an airbrush? Gonna take Tod’s advice and get some Com-Art paint.  Too lazy (and sloppy) to mix shit.

Had a nice morning chat with my little one.  We discussed painting with the airbrush and that evolved into field of vision for shooting out of and into cover in 40k. If I get my kid to play 40k, the wife has to let me play more often.  It becomes bonding time.

Airbrush and The Force is Boring in this One....

I set up my airbrush and tested it on the building I made at last year’s Game’s Day.  I followed the various boards recommendations to make the paint the consistency of 2% milk.  It took me a few minutes to understand the pressure and setup the compressor correctly.  I can say Todd was correct in how easy it is. Gonna finish another building then airbrush that.

Below is the Jedi Counselor video.  It’s meh…but the Republic is stupid.  Long live the Sith Empire.

W00t, my airbrush arrived

Got a confirmation that my airbrush and compressor are sitting on my table. Can’t wait to actually try it out. Probably will need to wait till tomorrow.

WoW: Mists of Pandaria

WoW: Mists of Pandaria

Kotaku is talking about Blizzard trademarking something called “Mists of Pandaria”.  It’s not too long before BlizzCon.  SWTOR is preparing to come out hot and heavy.  WoW is hemorrhaging subscribers.  Could this be them jumping the shark?

Messing with damage...

I have been watching the videos on and watched the scratched paint video.  He should what scratched paint looks like on a real tank and I decided the try it out.  I made the ice blue coat too runny.  Since I tried this on a vindicator that I can mess up a bit.  I don’t think it looks bad and I now know what I did wrong and can make up for it on my next tank.

Picks in the “read more” section.

Tamiya, where for art thou...

I went to Hobby Works in hopes of getting some Tamiya x-20a thinner.  Looks like it wasn’t meant to be.  They had crap.  I did make it to Hobby Lobby for the first time and was wonderfully surprised by there selection and pricing.  Their hours suck but they had everything (minus the x-20) I was looking for for prices that came close to matching the web.

I got a game in yesterday and Todd beat me in kill points with his guard.  I managed to do a respectable showing but came up short.  I should have played aggressive a turn earlier.

After looking at the horrible paint job on the terminator assault squad, I finally decided to strip them using Super Clean.  They are soaking and tomorrow or Wednesday I will scrub them down and then prime them with real primer.
